The President of France Emanuel Macrostated today that he is ready to continue the dialogue with Moscow and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putinwith the aim of ending the war in Ukraine.
“There is uncertainty,” Macron told M6, referring to the possibility of Russia using “unacceptable” weapons or launching an attack on other neighboring countries.
Speaking about the forthcoming summits between Western leaders in Brussels, Emanuel Macron said: “We, the French and the Europeans, will do everything we can to end this war without getting involved in it.”
In a televised interview focusing on his campaign program, Macron reiterated his position that the European Union must reform the functioning of the energy market, in which price formation depends heavily on Russian gas imports.
“We need to regain control of electricity prices,” said the French president, who called for a cap and a search for other suppliers to reduce dependence on Russia.
Macron added that France would step up efforts to deal with a global food crisis, which is a possible consequence of the war in Ukraine. Russia and Ukraine account for 30% of world grain exports.
“That is why France will present an international solidarity initiative tomorrow to start exploiting food stocks for emergencies,” Macron said, referring specifically to China as a country with large stocks.
