US President Donald Trump has imposed additional customs duties that reach up to 145% on many products imported into his country by China, which means that duties totaling 245% in some cases, for example electric cars.
Beijing has retaliated by imposing additional customs duties of 125% on part of US products imported to the US.
For the time being, the rest of the US trade partners are faced with an additional 10%base customs duty, as the implementation of much heavier reciprocal duties has been suspended for 90 days from Trump on April 9 for most countries. Many of them have begun talks with Washington.
“The pursuit of the same selfish temporary interests at the expense of other interests (…) will ultimately fail for the (each) two sides and will damage others,” the Chinese Ministry of Commerce also warned in its announcement.
