“Due to a fire on the military base perimeter in the Vladimir Region, ammo was caused by a storage area,” the Russian defense ministry says
At least four people were injured by a strong explosion earlier today at a Russian region’s ammunition warehouse (west), according to local authorities and the Ministry of Defense, which attributed the incident to a fire which was caused by non -strokes.
“Due to a fire on the military base perimeter in the Vladimir region, ammunition explodes in a storage area,” the Russian defense ministry said in a telegram ministry.
The regional governor Alexander Avdiev said in his own post that four people were injured, two of whom had to be hospitalized. He added that for security reasons, about 450 residents of communities were removed near the military base, while sounding an alarm in the wider Kirzac area.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office said the explosion occurred near the Barsovo community, about 80 kilometers northeast of Moscow.
Amateur videos released on social media platforms show a huge fiery sphere rising in the sky at the time of the explosion.
According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, a committee was set up to investigate the causes of the incident and “those responsible will be brought to justice”.
Fires and explosions in ammunition warehouses are common in Russia, usually due to failure to comply with security regulations or obsolete reserves of military material and neglected installations.
Since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have occasionally assumed responsibility for blows in ammunition warehouses in Russia.
