Thousands of faithful have gathered in the morning at St. Peter’s Square to worship Pope Francis’ body.

Pontiff’s body was moved earlier with a procession to the Basilica of St. Peter from the chapel of Santa Marta. There he will remain in an open coffin until Friday to allow those who wish to pay their respects.

The procession started after being read a little prayer by Camerlengo, Cardinal Kevin Farrell, who runs the Vatican after the death of the Pope.

The general public will be able to visit the Basilica of St. Peter from 11:00 until midnight on Wednesday, from 07:00 until midnight on Thursday and from 07:00 to 19:00 on Friday.

Having broken the tradition and change the pope a few years ago, Cardinals did not stay private with the corpse of the modifika while His coffin was not placed on a podiumas was his wish.

The operation began at 10:00 in the square in front of St. Peter’s Basilica in the presence of Patriarchs, Cardinals, Archbishops, Bishops and Priests from all over the world. The Dean of the Cardinal College, Cardinal Giovanni Batista, is leading the way.

Cardinal Batista will deliver the last praise and validation – a final prayer where the Pope will be officially entrusted to God – and Pontiff’s body will then be transferred to Santa Maria Maggiore For burial.

Huge crowds are expected on Saturday, with 250,000 people expected to attend the funeral. Many Heads of State and Kings have confirmed their participation, such as Prince William, US President Donald Trump, Spain King Felipe VI with Queen Letisia and French President Emmanuel Macron.
