Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has confirmed that another round of talks between Russia and the United States is expected to take place, but without specifying the exact date.
Among other things, speaking during a press conference, after his visit to Uzbekistan, the Russian Foreign Minister, referring to the situation in Afghanistan, criticized Western countries for their attempt to re -impose their presence in the country after the Taliban’s rise.
He also warned against the return of NATO’s military infrastructure to Afghanistan, describing such moves as potentially dangerous: “Such attempts will create a new time bomb, which may have a short wick.” Lavrov added that the control of Kabul by the Taliban is “a reality that must be recognized in order to pursue a pragmatic policy, free from ideologies”.
At the same time, Lavrov reiterated Russia’s opposition to what he described as West’s attempts to impose sovereignty on Central Asia. “We are strongly opposed to the politicization of cooperation processes and the introduction of ideological elements related to the efforts of one or other group of countries to impose it or other geopolitical areas,” he said.
He also announced that the Russia -Central Asian summit is scheduled for October, on the sidelines of the COMPETITION Summit in Dusanbe.
