George Aslan, a navigator of the opposition of equality and the democracy of the peoples, made a bold speech within the Turkish Parliament
George Aslan, the only Christian MP in Turkey, originally from Assyria, dared yesterday to honor the victims of the Armenian genocide in Parliament, in Ankara, even referring to “a black spot in Turkey’s history”.
Western and Armenian sources raise the number of slaughtered to 1,500,000 but Turkey denies the term “genocide” and states that the number of dead Armenians was from 600,000 to 800,000.
In his speech, the MP of the opposition Party of Equality and the Republic of Peoples (DEM) spoke of a dramatic decline in the Christian population in the country in the last century, noting that this is a historical event that cannot be ignored.
He also emphasized that Turkey was impossible to become democracy if the question is not answered because in a country with a population of 86 million Christians are only 50,000.

“1915, a black spot in the history of Turkey. I remember with respect to the Armenians, the Assyrians and all the other peoples who died during these events. In 1915, the Turkish population was 13 million, of which 3 million were Christians.
Today, the Turkish population is 86 million. And the number of Christians living in Turkey is 50,000. Now I ask all political parties in parliament to answer me. I asked the same question last year, but no one wanted to answer. My question is: Why is the population of Christians 50,000, while the whole population of Turkey is 86 million?
Only through answering this question will democracy reach Turkey. Otherwise, it is impossible for Turkey to become a democracy, “the DEM MP said during his speech.
