Eddie Mutve, who is also head of the opposition body leader, Bobby Wein, disappeared on April 27
Uganda army leader, who is the son of President Yueri Museveni, said he was holding a captive opposition member in his basement and threatened to exert violence against him after the man’s party said the latter was abducted by armed men.
Eddie Mutve, who is also head of the opposition leader, Bobby Wein, disappeared on April 27 after kidnapping him near the capital Kampala, according to the NUP Party (NUP).
Police said they are not holding Mutve, whose real name is Edward Seboufu, and to date there is no information on where he is.
In a series of posts on the X platform late Thursday, the leader of the Armed Forces Muhozi Kaineurugaba posted a photo of Mutve, in which he looked naked in the middle and above, with Kaineurugaba writing that he was “like”.
Reuters was not immediately able to verify the authenticity of the photo independently, but NUP later posted this photo on X seeking support for Mutve.
“It’s in my basement … You’re the next!”, Kaineurugaba wrote, responding to a Wine’s post about the disappearance of Mutbe.
“I still haven’t cut the AP …”, he wrote a few hours later, adding that he would release Mutve only when Museveni gave the order.
The 51 -year -old Kaineurugababa often makes incendiary comments on social media, including threats he had launched in 2022 for an invasion of neighboring Kenya and January for Wein’s beheading.
Wein is a popular musician who became a politician and came second in the 2021 elections.
Museveni, 80, in power since 1986, is expected to run for re -election next January.
His opponents and human rights activists regularly blame his government of extensive abuse, such as abductions and illegal deductions.
Museveni denies these categories.
Wein, who says the 2021 elections were tarnished by mass adulteration, wrote on X today that soldiers had just invaded the headquarters of his party ahead of a scheduled rally to support Mutve.
Kisa Besigge, another opposition leader, opponent of Mussvenen in four elections, was arrested in November and remains in prison with charges, among other things, for betrayal.
