Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins has died, the famous American rock band said in a statement posted on its Twitter account last night.
“The Foo Fighters family is devastated by the tragic and untimely loss of our beloved Taylor Hawkins,” wrote the team of Dave Grohl, a former Nirvana drummer, without elaborating on the cause or circumstances of his death.
The band, one of the most influential and critically acclaimed alternative rock bands, was set to play next Friday in Bogota, the capital of Colombia, on the occasion of the Estéreo Picnic Festival.
“His musical spirit and contagious smile will forever be etched in the memory of us all,” added the announcement of the death of 50-year-old Hawkins.
Taylor has been a member of the Foo Fighters since 1997 and has starred in some of their biggest hits, such as “Learn to Fly” or “Best of You”. He had previously played drums for independent Canadian singer Alanis Morissette.
