The Vice President for the Promotion of the European Lifestyle Margaritis Schoinas is today in Baghdad, Iraq, according to a statement from the Commission.
Mr Schoinas’ visit to Baghdad today is the third stop on a tour of partner countries crucial to ending the Belarussian regime’s instrumentalization of migrants, the statement said. In Baghdad, the Vice President of the Commission will meet with Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Qadimi in the presence of Interior Minister Othman al-Ghanimi. He will also meet with Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein.
“Today’s visit follows constructive visits to Dubai and Beirut last week, where Vice President Schoenas welcomed the strong commitment of the United Arab Emirates and the Lebanese authorities to address this issue together. Both Lebanon and the United Arab Emirates have since taken steps to halt organized travel to Minsk, as has the Turkish Civil Aviation Authority. “Syrian airline Cham Wings Airways has also announced a suspension of flights,” the commission said in a statement.
