OR Spain It canceled the market for 168 launchers and 1,680 anti -tank missiles from the Israeli company Rafael, today reported Spanish media, a few weeks after canceling a contract with another Israeli company for the purchase of ammunition.

The contract annulled today amounted to 287.5m euros, the Spanish newspaper El Pais quoted “government sources”, while the equipment was built in Spain with the permission of the Israeli company.

“There has been a process of recalling the licenses of Israeli origin,” sources of the Spanish Ministry of Defense told AFP, assuring that the ministry is “working on the reorientation of programs with the aim of achieving technological independence and autonomy.”

Spain’s prime minister, Socialist Pedro Sanchez, is one of the most critical voices in Europe over Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu about the Israeli response to Hamas’ attack on Israeli territory on October 7.

The Spanish interior ministry had already decided in April to cancel a contract for buying ammunition from an Israeli company, partly under pressure from the left -wing Sumar party, a government partner of the Socialists.

It was a bulletproof contract from the Israeli company IMI Systems of € 6.8 million.

Yolanda Diath, the third in the government’s hierarchy and Sumar’s leading figure, had then stated that Spain could not “do jobs with a genocidal government (…) slaughtering the Palestinian people”.

Nevertheless, the Delàs Center, a Barcelona -based research institute specializing in security and defense, estimated in April that Madrid had concluded, since the beginning of the war, 46 contracts worth $ 1,044 billion in Israeli companies, according to data from public companies.
