Trump’s decision to use the federal affair, which is usually under state control, is unusual.
The military website says it was put under federal control using the title 10 of the US Code.
Presidents Eisenhower, Kennedy and Johnson also used the National Guard to help enforce civil rights and maintain public order.
The guard was also fed up during the 1967 Detroit uprising, in riots after the assassination of Martin Luther King Junior in 1968 and during the New York Post Strike in 1970.
According to CNN, the last time a president federalized the National Guard was during the Los Angeles riots in 1992, after four white police officers were acquitted of the videotaped beating of a black motorist.
