US Air Force has half reduced its request to Congress for F-35in a big blow to Lockheed Martin, according to Bloomberg.

A Defense Ministry document on the supply request sent to the Capitol this week calls for 24 aircraft, from 48 last year.

The proposed cut is important because the US Air Force is the largest customer for the world’s largest weapons program. The reduction in the request for the F-35 reflects the way the Service reviews its funding for 2026 to comply with the plan of Defense Minister Pitt Hegschez to reduce US military spending by 8% over the next five years.

The request could be undergoing changes as it will pass through Congress. Lockheed Martin has many supporters in Congress, who may be able to change the details of the budget for the F-35 program.

The manned aircraft were not among the 17 sectors that Hegsheth protected the cuts in February. One area to protect was the newest program of unmanned aircraft in the Air Force. Air Force now plans to ask $ 3.5 billion for the F-35s.
