President Donald Trump’s government told the Israeli government that the United States will not be directly involved in any Israeli military attack on Iranian nuclear facilities, Axios said on Thursday, citing two US sources.
Specifically, the government has informed Israel that this will be an individual mission, not a joint business, at least in terms of bombings and other aggressive motor activities.
It is not clear whether the US will provide assistance in information or logistical support, such as air supply.
The US would certainly help Israel defend itself from Iranian retaliation, as they have done in previous Iranian attacks, Axios estimates.
At the same time, it says that while Israel could cause significant damage to Iran’s nuclear program, an Israeli operation would be more limited than a company that would include US participation.
The Israeli Air Force does not have B-2 or B-52 bombers that can carry the huge shelter destruction bombs that would probably be needed to hit the underground uranium enrichment facility Foro of Iran, which is built deep into a mountain.
Israel would probably try to hit the same targets repeatedly over many days in order to destroy Iran’s underground facilities. Analysts are divided into the possibility of success.
WSJ reported earlier on Thursday that the US will not provide ‘Aggressive’ aid for an attack on Iran.
