China today called on Israel and Iran to take “immediately” measures to reduce tensions, after Israeli blows to Iranian territory and Tehran’s response by launching rockets.

The Israeli army is conducting a series of unprecedented wounds in Iran since Friday to prevent the Islamic Republic from acquiring an atomic bomb, targeting hundreds of Iranian military and nuclear facilities.

Iran responded by launching ballistic missiles and unmanned aircraft (drones) to Israel.

“We call on all sides to take action immediately to reduce tensions as soon as possible, to prevent the region from sinking into increased volatility and creating conditions for returning to dialogue and negotiation to resolve their differences,” said Guo Jiakun.

“If the conflict between Israel and Iran continues to intensify, or even expand, the countries of the Middle East will be the first victims,” he added at a regular press conference.

Israel’s bombings in Iran have caused at least 224 deaths on Friday and injuries of more than 1,000 people, the Iranian health ministry said on Sunday.

On the Israeli side, Iranian retaliation since Friday has caused at least 18 deaths and the injury of nearly 400 people, according to a report by the French Agency from police and rescue information.

“I must emphasize that power cannot bring sustainable peace,” Guo Jiakun said.

“China will continue to maintain communication with the sides, promote peace and negotiations to prevent a new destabilization of the area,” he added.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang to say last week that Beijing supports Iran “in securing its national sovereignty” after talking to Iran and his Israeli counterpart.

Beijing has maintained good relations with Israel, but it has also supported the Palestinian case for decades, recognizes the Palestinian state and is in favor of a two -state solution.

China also maintains close relations with Iran, whose main trading partner and the largest oil buyer under US sanctions.
