New negotiations with Iran for its nuclear program will be jointly attempted by Germany, France and Britain, Foreign Minister Johann Vandfoul from Cyprus, where he met earlier tonight with his counterpart of the Republic of Cyprus Constantine Constantine. Mr Vandeful appeared cautious about the offer of mediation by Russian President Vladimir Putin and instead pointed to Cyprus as a possible suitable mediator.
“We will once again make our position clear that we can achieve a settlement and avoid further military conflicts, since Iran is fully willing to abstain from the use of nuclear technology for military purposes.”said Mr Vandeful and stressed that Tehran should understand the urgency of the situation. “There has long been no political excuse for the level of uranium enrichment in Iran, which was recently reassessed by the International Atomic Energy Organization,” The German Foreign Minister added and warned that Iran’s possible departure from the Nuclear Weapons Non -Spreading Treaty would further marginalize the country.
Referring to Vladimir Putin’s proposal to mediate the crisis between Israel and Iran, Johann Wandful expressed his reservations and said he knows many others ‘Good people’ and states that could reliably take on such a role – “And especially Cyprus”stressed, to add: “I don’t think there is a lack of people or states willing to mediate, but rather a lack of willingness on both sides to seek negotiations now.” Mr Vandeful also re -appealing, “Especially in Tehran”to send a clear message.
