A man sentenced to the last of the penalties for murder committed in 1976, who remained incarcerated in a prison for almost half a century pending his execution, was killed Wednesday in the state of Mississippi, south, USA.

THE Richard Jordan79 years old, was executed last night with deadly injectable chemicals. He was imposed on the death penalty for the abduction and murder of the Bank’s wife in 1976. The victim, Eduina Marter, was 34 years old.

The execution was the first in the state of Mississippi after two and a half years. The previous one took place in December 2022.

Was the second one that was planned to take place this week in the US, After that of Thomas Goudina51 years old, yesterday Tuesday in Florida. He had been sentenced to death for rape and murder in 1994 by Michel McGrath.

Overall, in the USA have been done 25 executions from the beginning of the current year.

Most, 20, were made with injectable deadly chemicals. Three – two in Alabama, one in Louisiana – were done by the method of causing suffocation due to nitrogen inhalation, extremely controversial, as UN experts call it a form of “torture”. Two more were made by executive excerpts in South Carolina; before this year, this method has been used in the country since 2010.

The death penalty has been abolished in 23 of the 50 US states. In the other three – California, Oregon, Pennsylvania – a moratorium is applied to its implementation, with decisions of their rulers.
