Ukraine and Russia will resume their digital peace talks on Friday (April 1st), a senior Ukrainian official said yesterday after talks in Turkey ended.
Ukrainian negotiator David Arahamia even said that Kyiv had proposed that the two leaders meet, but Russia replied that more work needed to be done before a draft agreement could be prepared.
In a new message last night, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he did not believe the Russian side’s promise to reduce its military activity, adding that his army was preparing for new hostilities in the eastern part of the country.
Russian forces in Ukraine are being rebuilt and preparing for new attacks, a spokesman for the Ukrainian Defense Ministry warned earlier.
He noted that the command of the Ukrainian armed forces has observed some movements away from Kyiv and Chernihiv, but does not consider it a mass withdrawal.
According to a statement from the Russian Defense Ministry, Russian forces will focus their operations in other areas, especially in the Donbas region.
Meanwhile, the French agency quoted a Pentagon official as saying that Russian troops had begun withdrawing from the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.
The same official said that the Russian army has begun to withdraw from Khostomel airport, northwest of Kiev.
