Amy Schumer, co-host of the Oscars, said on Wednesday that she was still “disturbed and traumatized” by best actor winner Will Smith’s slap in the face of comedian Chris Rock during Sunday’s ceremony (27).
During the broadcast of the event, Smith took the stage after Rock made a joke about the appearance of actress and presenter Jada Pinkett Smith, wife of the former, and slapped the comedian in the face. The actor then returned to his seat and yelled profanity twice towards Rock.
Chris Rock managed to pull himself together and announced the winner of the best documentary award for “Summer of Soul”, directed by musician Questlove.
“Still distraught and traumatized,” Schumer said on Instagram three days after the events. “I love my friend Chris Rock and I believe he handled it like a pro. He stayed up there and gave his friend Questlove the Oscar and the whole thing was so upsetting,” she said.
“[Vejo] So much pain on Will Smith anyway,” she lamented. “I’m still in shock and awestruck and sad.”
Schumer also said she was proud of herself and her co-hosts Regina Hall and Wanda Sykes. “But, yes, we are waiting for this nauseating feeling to pass after everything we’ve witnessed,” she said.
Less than an hour after hitting Rock, Smith won the best actor award for his portrayal of the father of tennis legends Venus and Serena Williams in the movie “King Richar: Raising Champions.”
