Ready to leave UNESCO is the United States as President Donald Trump It continues to withdraw the country from international institutions which it has long criticized, the New York Post said Tuesday, citing two European diplomats.

This move is a blow to the Paris -based organization, which was founded after World War II to promote peace through international cooperation in education, science and culture.

Trump made similar steps during his first term, leaving the UN World Health Council, a global climate change agreement and the Iranian nuclear agreement.

Joe Biden overturned these decisions after taking over his duties in 2021, returning the US to UNESCO, where and in the climate agreement.

After Donald Trump’s return to the White House, however, things are reversed again with the US once again withdrawing from these world organizations. The government has also ordered a 90 -day cessation throughout the US external assistance to evaluate alignment with Trump’s foreign policy priorities.

The United States initially joined UNESCO during its founding in 1945, but first withdrawn in 1984 in protest of the alleged economic mismanagement and anti-American prejudice, returning almost 20 years later, in 2003 under President George Bush.

UNESCO officials said the organization is already much less dependent on the United States than in the past, but this move will still affect the organization, with a limited impact on the programs funded by the United States.

The United States provides about 8% of UNESCO’s total budget, from about 20% at a time when Trump first withdrew the United States from the Organization.
