At least 11 people were injured in a knife attack on Saturday in front of a supermarket in Michigan, in the Northern USA, local authorities announced.
The alleged 42 -year -old perpetrator was arrested and detained, the sheriff of the County Grand Travers, Michael Shay, clarified during a press conference.
“According to the information we have at our disposal,” the attack “committed to luck” and the victims “had not been chosen in advance”.
The suspect, a resident of the Michigan state, allegedly acted alone and used a “folding knife”.
“We can confirm that 11 people are being treated,” Munson Medical Center said via Facebook Hospital.
Six of the victims were in critical condition last night and the other five in serious condition, according to the same source.
At least three people had to undergo surgery, According to Mr. Shay. Victims are six men and five women.
Michigan’s Governor, Gretsen Whitmer, noted that she was in touch with the authorities after learning the “horrifying news”.
Class enforcement forces received a telephone call after noon (local time) alerted to incident in front of a Walmart branch in Travers City, Michigan state police explained.
Julia Martel, present at the scene of the attack, told the New York Times that she first heard screams and then saw a man holding a knife to rush to the store with medicinal species.
According to her, she pushed and stabbed people moving from one section of the store to another.
The woman also said she saw at least three injured and “blood everywhere”.
Mr Shay clarified that the knives began in the funds and added that such incidents of violence were “very unusual” in his area.
Attending the store “helped” the suspect arrested, according to him.
