‘We need time to rebuild’, says Brazilian who was missing in Ukraine

by

Silvana Pilipenko, 54, from Paraíba, who was missing for 27 days in Ukraine and was found by her family this week, said she faced “very difficult” days in the country after the building she lived in, in Mariupol, was bombed in early March. .

In a video posted this Thursday (31) on her social network, the artisan said that she, her husband, the Ukrainian Vasili Pilipenko, and her mother-in-law, who is 86 years old, are physically well, but “emotionally shaken”.

Silvana said she is already in Crimea, the southern peninsula of the country annexed to Russia in 2014.

“We are fine. We left Ukrainian territory two days ago. We are in a small village in Crimea. […] Me, my husband and my mother-in-law are physically well, but emotionally shaken. We need time to rebuild ourselves. It was difficult, very difficult days,” she said.

In the video, Silvana also thanked the Brazilian people for their concern and commitment so that she could get out of the area under Russian attack and said that she will come to Brazil soon — she has lived in Ukraine for 27 years.

In addition, he asked Brazilians to continue praying for the Ukrainian people to remain strong and resistant to the war. “Whoever is there doesn’t have much way out, doesn’t have many choices.”

The artisan’s family in Brazil lost contact with her on March 2 and began a mobilization in search of information. On Monday (28), the son managed to make contact again and learned that she had left Mariupol, in a private car, bound for Crimea.

Since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Silvana has been using her social media and videos sent to her family in Brazil to tell her daily life in the besieged city.

He cited the main difficulties faced by the population, such as the lack of water and electricity and the scarcity of food on supermarket shelves. Because of this, he stated that he feared that in the following days he would be without internet and without communication.

The artisan was in Brazil in January, but had another trip scheduled for March 20, which ended up not happening.
