A referral of three ministers requested the “Special Judicial Council” in the case of Libyan General Al Masri. Has Melon succumbed to Libya blackmail? Response from Rome
Following the case of closed migratory centers in Albania, the Melonian government is facing yet another difficulty just before the summer vacation. The special, six -member “Judicial Council”, responsible for investigations by members of the government, considered that interior ministers Matteo Piandozi, Justice Carlo Nordio and the Deputy Minister should be brought to trial despite the presidency of the Alfredo Government. The investigation concerns the synergy crime and the whole case is related to the arrest of Libyan General Nazem Ozama, known as Al Masri, on January 19 in Turin, shortly after the end of the football match.
The arrest had been made on the basis of a warrant by the International Criminal Court of Hague, which accuses Al Masri of killings and torture and in the detriment of minors. After two days, however, the Libyan general was released and was transported by an Italian government aircraft to Tripoli where he received a large crowd at the airport as a hero.
“The arrest warrant contained mistakes and it was unclear,” the Italian government justified. The prosecutor’s Office of the International Criminal Court, however, called for in -depth investigation to be carried out and asked why Rome did not contact her before making any decisions. The Italian opposition described the attitude of the Meloni government as unacceptable, accusing the Italian prime minister of succumbing to Libyan blackmail, mainly referring to migration.
Melon insists that she knew everything
It is recalled that Italy has a particularly close relationship with the Tripoli government and supports its coastguard and border guard. Last week, Melon attended a tripartite conference in Istanbul, with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the Prime Minister of the Western Libyan National Unity Government, Abdul Hamid Dbabba.
Regarding this case, it was not requested to refer to a trial of the Italian prime minister because there was no evidence that he had been informed – in a sophisticated – handling of the case. She defends the ministers and insists that she knew and approved all their decisions.
The three members of the government will hardly be brought to trial because the absolute majority of the vote in parliament is needed. It is clear, however, that at the political level, the whole debate about what costs the country pays for the restraint of immigration currents and the impunity of those in Libya, are accused of inhumane refugees and immigrants in closed detention centers.
