Shock has caused Argentine public opinion the death of dozens of people because they were given medical fentanyl contaminated by bacteria. Justice is investigating the deaths of at least 87 patients in various hospitals and health centers in Latin America.

A lawsuit was filed by the Argentinean Organization of Medicines, Food and Medical Technology (ANMAT) after being found by a Klebsiella Pneumoniae and Ralstonia Pickettii bacteria hospital in medical fentanyl – strong opioid – administered to patients.

Deaths were recorded in hospitals in the provinces Buenos Aires, Santa Fe (Central), Formosa (northeast) and Cordoba (central), Judge Ernesto Kreplask, who was entrusted with the case, said the La Nación newspaper yesterday.

According to the article, the survey concerns at least 24 persons. Among them are Ariel Fourfaro Garcia, owner of HLB Pharma and Laboratorios Ramallo, who produced and sold the infected fentanyl, according to La Nación.

Five contaminated lots were distributed to eight hospitals and health centers in the country.

Two weeks ago relatives of patients who died demonstrated in front of the Italian hospital in La Plata, 60 kilometers south of Buenos Aires, to claim to be “justice for the victims of Fentanyl”.
