Unable to transport humanitarian aid to Mariupol and evacuate the city: Local authorities

The besieged Mariupol remains closed to anyone who wants to enter and is “very dangerous” for anyone trying to leave, an adviser to the mayor of the southern Ukrainian city said on Friday.

According to Petro Andriuschenko, Russian forces have been blocking even the smallest amount of humanitarian supplies from reaching the trapped residents since Thursday, making it clear that a “humanitarian corridor” has not been opened as planned.

“It’s very dangerous” to try to leave Mariupol, warned Andrewschenko.

Reuters notes that tens of thousands of civilians have been trapped for weeks with scanty food, water and other supplies in the city they once hosted. 400,000 people, but has been destroyed by Russian bombing.

It is noted that the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that on April 1 a humanitarian corridor will be opened from the besieged city of Mariupol to Zaporizhia tomorrow, Friday, reports the Reuters news agency, citing the Russian news agency Tass.
