Israel has approved a plan to build 3,400 houses in the occupied Western Bank that will lead to the partition of Palestinian territories by abolishing any territorial continuity and burning the idea of the Palestinian state.
“I am pleased to announce that for just half an hour the political leadership has approved the plan to build the E1 district,” said Gui Yfach, mayor of the neighboring Jewish settlement of Maale Antumim.
This is the E1 plan, which has remained frozen since 2012 and is intended to divide the western van. The approval of the plan was announced last week by Bezalel Smotric, the right -wing minister of Netanyahu’s government and a leader of the settlement, provoking the reactions of the European Union and the UN who called on the Israeli government to abandon it.
Israel had frozen the plans for erection because of the disagreements of the United States, European countries and other forces, which considered the plan to threaten any future agreement with the Palestinians.
The E1 plan will connect the Jewish settlement of Maale Antumim with the East Jerusalem cutting off the city intended by the Palestinians for the capital of the future Palestinian state from the rest of the west western van.
The Jewish settlements in the Western Bank and the military occupation by Israel are considered illegal by the international community.
The Peace Now organization, which is watching the settlement activity in the West Bank, had announced earlier this month that the housing ministry approved the construction of 3,300 houses in Maale Antumim.
“The E1 is fatal for Israel and for any possibility of achieving the solution of the two states. We stand on the brink of abyss and the government is leading us there, “he said in a statement by Peace Now.
Britain, Canada and New Zealand imposed sanctions against Smotric and also far -right Minister Itamar Ben Gvir, accusing them of systematically stimulating the violence of Jewish settlers against the Palestinians in the West.
Britain and other Western countries are calling on Israel to stop the expansion of Jewish settlements to the western bob. Nevertheless, in the last 22 months, and as the Israeli war in Gaza rages, the settlers are escalating the attacks on the Palestinians on the occupied Western Bank, while the Jewish settlements are constantly expanding.
