Ankara is gradually returning to the inflammatory rhetoric around the well-known issue of violations by Greece of the “demilitarization regime” of the Aegean islands.

In her statements, the representative of the Turkish Ministry of Defense, Pinar Karareported that the “Greece by air and sea means continues to violate the status of islands with demilitarized status and in 2022 has committed 423 violations”.

In fact, from the Turkish side, the visits of Greek ministers to the islands were again characterized as “illegal”: “There have been 11 visits by the Deputy Minister of Defense and a total of 19 visits by ministers to these islands, thus continuing to violate international law.”said the Head and added:

“Greece’s military activity in the islands with a demilitarized regime is a violation of the terms of the Lausanne and Paris Treaties that provide for their demilitarization. We will continue to express this illegality at every level.

For these visits and military activities, the necessary diplomatic actions are taken and actions are taken at the level of reciprocity “.

Finally, the spokeswoman reiterated Ankara’s plans for the partition of Cyprus, stating “Another fact is the status of ΔTDBK᾽᾽ on the island. We emphasize again that the only solution in Cyprus is two sovereign, independent, equal states “.
