The Minister of Rural Development and Food stated from Ioannina that the big bet for the upgrade of the primary sector can be realized George Georgantascompleting his two-day visit to the area.
At the inauguration of the Milk Control Laboratory of ELGO DIMITRA at the Dairy School of Ioannina, Mr. Georgantas said that it is the duty of the state, through the interoperability of services and systems, to utilize modern infrastructure and well-trained staff to control and to protect Greek products and Greek producers.
“No one has the right to falsify the quality products and the effort of our primary sector. The inspection process must be done with speed and transparency “, pointed out Mr. Georgantas.
Mr. Georgantas stressed that the primary sector is the backbone of Greek society and especially the countryside, while, at the same time, noted that there can be no substantial development without it.
Regarding the work done in Dairy School, said he “marries” traditional ways with new technologies. Referring to the new control systems implemented by the School’s laboratories, he said that through interoperability, they will be used to strengthen controls in the market. “Where there is a case of fraud, we will find it,” said the Ministry of Regional Development.
Mr. Georgantas is convinced that, through the difficult period we are experiencing, the primary sector can be reborn. And he expressed his will, as Minister of Rural Development and Food, to enhance production and protect the quality of products produced.
Finally, he referred to the support measures of the producers and announced that, in the coming days, the way of supporting the farmers for the feed market will be announced, as based on the turnover of 2021, more than 45 million euros will be allocated.
Referring to market developments, he stressed that there is an adequacy of goods, as domestic production is utilized and imports are made from alternative markets.
The president of ELGO, professor Mr. Serko Haroutunianduring the inauguration ceremony, stated that the primary sector has always been the support of Hellenism and emphasized the upgrade of education and training implemented by the Ministry of Regional Development, but also the targeted controls carried out based on the laboratories of ELGO.
The Regional Governor of Epirus Mr. Alekos Kachrimanis characterized the controls of ELGO as the spearhead of the effort, while he expressed his confidence in the policy and actions of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure regarding the preservation of the quality of Greek products.
The Milk Quality Research Unit is essentially a new research system, which is based on modern technologies and scientific knowledge, with the aim of addressing the problems in modern animal husbandry and industrial production.
Afterwards, Mr. Georgantas visited the Animal – Genetic Resources Center of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure in Ioannina and talked with the scientists and the staff.
