Police were arrested after the occupation of Microsoft President Brad Smith’s office was occupied as part of the ongoing protests on the company’s alleged ties with Israeli defense forces during the ongoing war against Hamas in Gaza.
Among those arrested were current Microsoft officials, according to the No Azure for Apartheid protesters, Times of Israel notes.
Azure is Microsoft’s main cloud computing platform, and Microsoft has stated that it is considering a report by the British newspaper The Guardian this month, according to which the IDFs used it to store telephone call data acquired through the Palestinian Palestinian and West.
The protesters seemed to rally in a live broadcast on Twitch as police rushed to arrest them. The video showed another group concentrated outside.
During a press conference, Smith said two of the detainees were Microsoft officials.
Eighteen people were arrested in a similar demonstration in a square outside the company’s headquarters last week. The team has been protesting for months against the company. In May, Microsoft fled an employee who interrupted the speech of CEO Satya Nadella, while in April he fired two others who interrupted the company’s 50th anniversary celebration.
The demands of the group include the interruption of the company’s relationships with Israel and the payment of compensation to the Palestinians.
