Emmanuel Macron wants to move quickly and appoint a new prime minister in the possibility of the French government, under Prime Minister Francois Bairou, failing to secure a vote of confidence next Monday, September 8, according to Politico.

The aim is to designate François Bairou’s replacement before September 18, as the country’s largest trade unions are planning strikes, according to Politico. It is noted that there is also a call for nationwide Lockdown on September 10, but according to Politico sources Macron’s office does not provide for a mass turnout then – although they expect possible violence.

An analysis by the Jean Jaurès Foundation concluded that the online calls for Lockdown on September 10th were largely motivated by the radical left.

Specifically, the strike on September 18th is expected to paralyze France’s transport networks, as they will participate in Air France rail, Air France Traffic Unions. Mobilizations are also expected by civil servants, including teachers.

One minister told Politico that the government must have a new prime minister in time, so that “To be able to deal with the unions on September 18.”
