The European Union is sending a delegation to Washington to prepare new joint sanctions against Russia, European Council President Antonio Costa announced on Friday.

“We work with the United States and other partners with common values ​​to enhance pressure through new direct and secondary sanctions,” Costa said during a press conference in the Ukrainian city of Ouzhod, where he had a meeting with President Volodimir.

He added that “a European team travels to Washington to work with our US partners”, but without revealing which persons will participate in the mission.

His spokesman referred to the European Commission for more information, which did not answer the Politico question.

Commission President Ursula von der Laien has already announced that the 19th EU sanctions package against Russia.

It will be presented in early September and aims to bring President Putin to the negotiating table.
