Ukraine: “Inhuman treatment” of our soldiers captured by the Russian army

by

Ukrainian soldiers captured by the Russian military and recently released have reported “inhuman treatment” during their captivity, said Lyudmina Denisova, a human rights activist in the Ukrainian parliament.

«Ukrainian soldiers recounted the inhuman treatment they received from Russia“, She complained on Facebook, referring in particular to various forms of physical abuse.

«They were kept in a field, in a pit, in a garage. Every now and then they would take someone out: they would beat him with a glop, they would shoot him in the ear, they would intimidate him“, Denisova continues.

Speaking about the sailors who were captured in the first days of the invasion of Fidonisi, a Black Sea island, he said that “they were left in a camp with tents at temperatures of 20 ° C below zero, which caused frostbite in many of them.”

Two exchanges of detainees have reportedly taken place so far, on March 24, from Ukraine and Russia.

One involved the release of 19 Ukrainian sailors from Fidonisi, in exchange for eleven civilian sailors rescued from a Russian ship that sank near Odessa, the other involved ten soldiers from each country.

Earlier, the Russian Foreign Ministry said that two more exchanges were organized after the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, without specifying the dates or the number of prisoners involved.
