At least five people were killed in the 6.9 -degree earthquake that hit the central Philippines On Tuesday night (local time), local police announced on Wednesday morning.

“We have five confirmed deaths,” the policeman said Felipe Cambague of the city as Remizio, adding that it has no more information on the identity of the victims.

There is no tsunami threat

The earthquake hit an area north of the island of Sebos on Tuesday at 21.59 local time (15.59 hours of Greece), causing damage to buildings and roads and power outages.

The Local Seismological Service warned earlier of a possible “slight rise in sea level” and urged residents of the central islands of Leight, Sebu and Biliran to “stay away from the beach and not go to the coast”.

The epicenter of the earthquake was found about 11 kilometers east-east of the city of Kalape, in the province of Bochol, which has about 33,000 inhabitants.

The Pacific Tsunami Alert Center said that “there is no tsunami threat from this earthquake” and that “no measures are needed”.

The provincial government of Sebu announced the collapse of a building with shops and a school in Badayan, as well as damage to several villages.
