Donald Trump’s geographical confusion has been the subject of jokes at the European Political Community Summit in Copenhagen, with Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama “trolling” French President Emmanuel Macron and Ilham Aligiev of Azerbai.
“You have to apologize … because you didn’t congratulate us on the peace deal made by President Trump between Albania and Azerbaijan,” Rama told Macron, challenging Aliyev’s laughs.
“Sorry for that,” Macron replied jokingly.
Albanian PM Rama to Macron:
You should Congratulate ilham aliyev and me.

Donald Trump has repeatedly confused Armenia with Albania when he talks about his efforts to resolve the chronic tensions between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
“I solved wars that were considered unsolved. Azerbaijan and Albania, this was going on for many years, many years, I had the prime ministers and presidents in my office, “he told Fox News in an interview last month.
And at a joint press conference with British Prime Minister Kir Starmer, Trump said: “We have settled Amber-Baijan and Albania”, paraphrasing the name of one country of the South Caucasus and confusing the other.
The truth, however, is that Trump intervened in agreement between the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan in the White House in August, with the two countries committing to end decades of conflict and reinforcing their ties with Washington. The Republican leader presented the pact as a great diplomatic victory, reinforcing his profile as he claims the Nobel Peace Prize.
He has repeatedly claimed to have managed to settle seven wars since he returned to the White House this year, acting as a mediator. Among the conflicts he claims to have “resolved” are those between Serbia and Kosovo as well as Egypt and Ethiopia. Although there are tensions between these countries, they have not been in war lately.
India, for its part, rejected the White House’s claims that Trump had contributed to the tension with Pakistan in May.
Armenia -Albania confusion is not the first time Trump has shown that he is not sufficient for geography.
During his election campaign in 2023 he had confused Hungary with Turkey, referring to Hungarian Prime Minister Victor Orban as a “leader of Turkey” and saying that his country has “borders” with Russia. (Neither Turkey nor Hungary have land borders with Russia.)
And before a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in August, Trump had stated: “Let’s go to Russia. It will be something very important. ” The meeting took place in Alaska, a US state.
