Almost one child is suffering from acute malnutrition in the Gaza Strip due to the war between Israel and Hamas, a study that is being made today, shortly after the UN declared famine in areas of the Palestinian pocket.
“After nearly two years of war and drastic restrictions on humanitarian aid, tens of thousands of preschoolers in the Gaza Strip suffer from acute malnutrition that could have been prevented and at increased risk of mortality.”According to a study posted on the website of The Lancet scientific inspection and funded by the United Nations Relief and Works Office for Palestinian refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).
The scientific publication has been recorded almost two months after the UN officially declared in the summer of the Lims of the Palestinian Thylakos, a category that rejected some Israel, describing it as false.
The war had a trigger for Hamas on October 7, 2023 in southern Israel, which resulted in their lives losing 1,219 people on the Israeli side, mostly civilians. Since then, at least 67,160 Palestinians have died in the Gaza Strip on large -scale Israeli military retaliation operations, during the most recent numbers by the Hamas government ministry, which are considered credible by the UN.
The study, the first to record in an exhaustive manner of the level of malnutrition of children in Gaza, is based on Data for over 200,000 children under 5examined between January 2024 and August 2025 at UNRWA facilities.
The percentage of extreme malnutrition, which translates into a mess and can cause serious health problems, in the short and in the long run, has increased rapidly, especially after the absolute exclusion imposed by Israel between March and May.
The latest measurements made in August showed that 15% of children examined were suffering from acute malnutrition. Reduction to the entire population of the Gaza Strip, the researchers estimated that nearly 55,000 children suffer from acute malnutrition in the seaside pocket.
“These data must be examined taking into account some restrictions”noted in a comment that was also published by the The Lancet Pediatricians from various countries who did not participate in research.
But its findings of rare quality in a war zone clearly show that “Children in the Gaza Strip are very severely malnourished, a reality that will affect their health and growth for generations.”
In addition, noting that the war in the lane is gathering much of the media’s attention internationally, they recall that other war zones are affected by famines, especially in Sudan.
