The Peruvian Parliament approved yesterday the examination of four proposals in order to terminate President Dina Boluarte, paving the way for a procedure that may lead to its fall during a session broadcast directly.

Congress has a majority approved the examination of the proposals by the main political factions that Mrs Boluarte, 63, be dismissed, due to “permanent moral inadequacy” to exercise office.

President Boluarte had already been confronted with repeated attempts to get away from the office, but they had not progressed. This time, however, evolution can prove to be very different: Right and Right Parties, which have supported it so far, have now abandoned it.

In the event of the deportation of the head of the state, he is the president of Congress, where the right and the far right, the one who will take over, the president, to the April 2026 elections.

Peru continues to live a period of political instability, the most serious of its modern history: it has met six presidents in less than nine years. Dina Boluarte, who took over the top post after the removal of Pedro Castillo’s Radical Leftist Left – followed by mass demonstrations that were violently destroyed, with more than 50 dead – a record.

In recent weeks, anti -government demonstrations have multiplied in Lima, mainly in protest of an increasing wave of blackmail and murder attributed to organized crime.
