A shocking complaint was made by a 16-year-old girl in India, claiming that she had been raped hundreds of times by hundreds of men.
At least seven men have been arrested in western India in connection with the allegations.
In a statement to the Child Welfare Committee of India (CWC) on 11 November, the girl, who was homeless, specifically said he was raped by 400 people in the Bid area of ​​Maharashtra, according to CWC President Abhay Vitthalrao Vanave. She named two police officers in her complaint, Vanave said.
The girl was begging for money at a bus stop when three men allegedly forced her to issued said Vanave.
Although the number of rapes would be difficult to confirm, the girl was able to identify at least 25 alleged perpetratorsς, he added.
However, police have opened a case against eight men – including a minor – for rape and the Sexual Protection Act, which provides for harsher prison sentences.
The girl told police she married a 33-year-old man who sexually abused her at the age of 13, according to a police statement.
She also told police she was sexually assaulted by her father, causing her to leave her home and fall asleep at the bus stop.
Women’s rights activist Yogita Bhayana said this was “the most tragic (rape) case in history”.
“This girl was tortured every day,” he said, adding that police had failed to protect her. “We want strong action against all those guilty.”
According to the National Crime Records Bureau of India, more than 28,000 cases of alleged rape of women were reported in 2020 – about one every 18 minutes. Experts believe that the real number is much higher, as many do not report it out of fear.
