The Trump government has fired dozens of officials from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as part of the last round of cuts, including “disease researchers”, high -ranking scientists, as well as all CDC office staff in Washington, according to a New York Times.

The White House and the CDC did not respond immediately to Reuters’ requests to comment on the report.

Influenced workers received the notifications of their dismissal by email shortly before 04:00 in the early hours of Greece on Friday, informing that their duties are now considered unnecessary or “theoretically similar” to the exercise of parallel duties.

The exact number of CDC workers affected has not yet been confirmed, according to the report.

The ongoing shutdown of US Federal Government services sends hundreds of thousands of federal workers to the home, affecting its personal health and social services, including CDCs.
