Millions of people are expected to demonstrate today from New York to San Francisco against the authoritarian policies of US President Donald Trump, in a mobilization already demonized by the American right.
“The president believes he has absolute power. But in America we have no kings, and we will not bow to chaos, corruption, and savagery.”explains the movement “No Kings”.
More than 2,700 concentrations are planned today in several American cities, even near Trump’s mansion in Mar-a-Lago, Florida, where the Republican president will spend the weekend.
Organizers estimate that millions of Americans will participate in the protests. In mid-June, when the first such mobilization was organized, millions of Americans participated in the largest protest since Trump’s return to the White House. On the same day, Donald Trump had celebrated his 79th birthday with a military parade through the streets of Washington.
Keeping a low profile in a recent interview with Fox NewsTrump commented: “They call me king. I’m not a king”.
Several Republican Party officials have condemned it protest movementeven going so far as to compare it to terrorism.
Speaking of “Hate Mobilization Against America”the Republican leader in the House of Representatives, Mike Johnsonstated: “I bet you’ll see Hamas supporters and Antifa members”referring to the recently characterized movement “terrorist organization” by President Trump. The MP Tom Emmer accused Democrats of giving in to “terrorist wing of their party”.
“This movement is going to play a pivotal role in America’s future, so I understand why they’re nervous.”the Democratic MP said yesterday Friday Glen Ivyadding that he will participate in the mobilization.
“We will not be silenced”said the head of the organization for the defense of civil liberties ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union) Dierdre Schiffeling.
The popular actor addressed a call for mass participation in the mobilization Robert De Nirowho in a video message urged Americans to rise up “without violence” against him “King Donald Trump”.
Actor Robert De Niro: “Now we have a would-be king — King Donald the First. Fuck that. I’m Robert De Niro and I’m asking you to stand up and be counted in the nationwide No Kings protest on October 18th”
