In a round of diplomatic contacts that followed the yesterday’s visit of President Zelensky to the White HouseBritish Prime Minister Keir Starmer spoke on Friday night with the president of Ukraine, European leaders and the Secretary General of NATO.
During the joint conversation, the leaders reiterated their unwavering commitment to Ukraine in the face of continued Russian aggression. A common belief expressed was that a just and lasting peace for Ukraine is the only way to end the bloodshed once and for all.
The leaders also agreed that further discussions on ways they can support Ukraine, both before and after a ceasefire, will continue within the current week. These consultations will also include a teleconference “Alliance of the Eager” next Friday.
According to Downing Street, after completing the communication with the other leaders, the British Prime Minister had a bilateral conversation with President Zelensky “aiming to underline the UK’s resolute support for Ukraine”.
The British prime minister stressed to the Ukrainian president that Russia’s tactics in the run-up to the peace talks have shown that the Ukraine is the place that seriously pursues peace.
In addition, Keir Starmer emphasized that the United Kingdom will continue to step up the his support and will ensure that Ukraine will be located at strongest position possible ahead of winterthrough continued humanitarian, economic and military support.
Finally, the two leaders agreed to stay in close contact.
