A truce deal in Gaza is in danger of collapsing as the IDF launched an airstrike on Rafah in southern Gaza on Sunday morning in response to a Hamas attack on its forces.
According to the Wafa agency cited by Al Jazeera, two Palestinians were killed and many injured by an Israeli airstrike on Jabalia, north of Gaza.The agency cites medical sources who report that “Ambulance crews were unable to reach the area due to the hazardous conditions.”
As the blame game between Israel and Hamas continues over who is violating the US-brokered ceasefire deal, Israeli media reports that Israeli forces have accepted “terrorist attack» at Rafa.
According to a statement from an IDF officer “Hamas carried out multiple attacks against Israeli forces beyond ‘yellow line‘, violating the truce”.
Izzat al-Rishek, a senior Hamas official, said for his part that the Palestinian organization remains committed to the ceasefirewhile accusing the Israel that it has violated it repeatedly.
“Warplanes launched two airstrikes on Rafah” in “an area under the control of the Israeli army”an eyewitness told AFP.
A second eyewitness spoke of “conflicts» between her Hamas and once another Palestinian armed organization in an area “under the control of the Israeli army”.
According to the Jerusalem Post, Mr Benjamin Netanyahu is expected to meet with Defense Minister Israel Katz and IDF chief Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir to discuss the nature of Israel’s response to the breach.
“I call on the prime minister to order the Israel Defense Forces to fully resume fighting in the Gaza Strip in full force,” National Security Minister Ben-Gvir said after the attack.
“The Nazi terrorist organization must be completely destroyed – and preferably as soon as possible,” he said.
