US President Donald Trump and Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman are expected to meet at the White House on November 18, CBS reported.
The visit will be bin Salman’s first to Washington since Trump was elected to a second term as president.
Earlier the Financial Times had reported that Saudi Arabia is in talks with the Trump administration about a defense agreement similar to the one signed last month between the US and Qatar, which would stipulate that any attack on the emirate would be considered a threat to US peace and security.
Riyadh hopes the deal will be finalized when its de facto leader, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, visits the White House. The kingdom is looking forward to a “strong” deal, which will include enhanced military cooperation and intelligence sharing.
Asked about the potential defense deal, a senior Trump administration official said: “There are discussions about signing some text when the crown prince comes, but the details remain fluid.”
