During the meeting, the two leaders will consider matters concerning NATO’s support to Ukraineas well as US efforts for lasting peace, as a representative of the Alliance told AFP.

The NATO chief has sought to maintain a close relationship with Donald Trump, seeking to influence critical developments such as the war in Ukraine.

At the same time, European leaders express concern about the possibility of reaching an agreement that could harm Ukraine and Europe’s security. These concerns intensified after the American president’s meeting with Volodymyr Zelensky last Friday at the White House.

According to a senior Ukrainian official, Trump pressured the Ukrainian president to cede the eastern Donbas region to Kiev.

European leaders continue to call for increased pressure on Moscow, while in Washington, the US president has so far refused to strengthen sanctions against Russia.
