Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s government partner Devlet Bakhceli continues to question the election of Tufan Erhiurman as the new leader of the Turkish Cypriots, insisting that their fate cannot be determined by the low turnout and reiterating that the Occupied Islands must unite with Turkey, as broadcast from Istanbul. SKAI correspondent, Manolis Kostidis.
“The elections in the “Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus” were held with a low participation rate. The fate of the Turkish Cypriots cannot be determined by this percentage,” said the president of the Nationalist Action party.
Continuing, he emphasized: “Our 81st city is Duzze, now our 82nd city should become the “TRDBK”. This is a matter of life and death.”
Erdogan’s government partner suggested, in fact, that “the parliament of the TRNC should meet, announce that it will not accept the results of the elections and take a decision to annex Turkey.”
Opposition: “Respect the will of the Turkish Cypriots”
Bakhceli’s obsession has provoked reactions from the opposition.
“When you say to the whole world: ‘recognize the TRNC,’ then you must first recognize it. You will first respect the will of the people there,” said the president of the Republican People’s Party, Özgiur Ozel.
