The president of Peru’s Congress, Fernando Rospiliosi, called yesterday, Monday, “reprehensible” the fact that a member of parliament asked a colleague to do her toenails to her office and asked for her punishment.

The member of parliament of the left Lucinda Vasquez she was photographed on a couch while one of her assistants massaged her and cut her toenails in her congressional office in Lima, a local TV show revealed.

The photo was taken on November 6, 2024 but only recently became known.

Rospilosi, of the right-wing People’s Power party, said it was a “degradation” of congressional workers to be assigned such tasks that were “not part of their duties” and called on the congressional ethics committee to sanction Vazquez. “What happened is reprehensible, it should not happen in Congress, those who commit such acts should be punished. I hope that the ethics commission will take all the necessary measures,” Rospiliosi said at a press conference.

Ethics Commission Chairman Elvis Vergara told reporters he will request an ex officio investigation into Vazquez on Nov. 3.
