Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova opened fire and threatened Athens. deportation of 12 Russian diplomats.
In a statement, Zakharova spoke of one “Unprecedented move” in Russian-Greek relations noting that “we will respond appropriately”.
“On April 6, 12 diplomats from the Russian Embassy in Athens and the Consulate General in Thessaloniki were declared personae nоn gratae.
This is a truly unprecedented move in Russian-Greek relations. It only confirms how zealously the Greek authorities are monitoring the course of the dissolution of our bilateral multilateral and mutually beneficial cooperation. It is unfortunate that historical, cultural and economic ties are being sacrificed in no time in the name of “transatlantic solidarity”.
There is no doubt that those who made this unfounded decision to expel our staff from the country wanted to sow discord between the Russian and Greek people. Although everything is being done now to discredit Russia, to do the greatest possible damage to our bilateral ties and to exhaust our diplomatic missions, we are convinced that these plans are doomed to fail in the long run.
Athens is entirely responsible for this hostile move. We will respond appropriately. ”
