Zelensky demands tougher sanctions against Russia and more weapons

by

The Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky claimed to be imposed tougher sanctions in Russia and send more weapons to the Ukrainian army.

The international sanctions imposed so far are not enough to stop Russia and end the war, the Ukrainian head of state said in a recorded speech that was uploaded to the Telegram platform on Thursday night.

“More sanctions are needed. “We need tougher sanctions,” he said. At the same time, he demanded more weapons “with which we can win the battlefield”, claiming that these would be the harshest sanctions against Moscow.

He assured that the Ukrainian army is doing everything possible to repel the Russian attack on Donbas.

He also called the suspension of Russia’s participation in the UN Human Rights Council “reasonable” and “absolutely fair”.

At the same time, he added that the situation in Borodyanka – a town northwest of Kiev – which was recently regained control by Ukrainian forces from Russian invaders, was “much more horrific” than in Bukha, where civilians were massacred.

“There are more victims” in this small town than in Bukha – which is also located northwest of the Ukrainian capital, “Zelensky said in a video message.

“Every crime will be investigated and every perpetrator will be found,” he said.

Earlier, Ukraine’s Prosecutor General Irina Venediktova announced via Facebook that 26 bodies had been found by rescuers in the rubble of two bombed-out apartment buildings in Borodyanka, a town with a population of about 13,000 before the war.

He stressed that Borodyanka is “the most devastated city in the Kiev region” and expressed fears about the final death toll there.
