Russia retaliates: Announces deportation of 45 Poles and two Bulgarian diplomats

THE Russia announced today the deportation of 45 Polish diplomats and two Bulgariansin retaliation for similar measures taken by Warsaw and Sofia in recent days.

“Based on the principle of retaliation, 45 associates of the Polish embassy and consulates general in Irkutsk, Kaliningrad and St. Petersburg were identified as undesirable persons.”said the Foreign Ministry in a statement.

Diplomats should to leave Russia by 13 April.

At the end of March Warsaw announces deportation of “45 Russian spies posing as diplomats”against the background of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Also, two Bulgarian diplomats are deported from Moscow, after Sofia’s decision to deport Russian diplomats in March.

THE Bulgaria deported 12 Russian diplomats in March and another in April, for “activities incompatible with their diplomatic status”. It also recalled its ambassador to Moscow for consultations following “non-diplomatic and rude” comments made by the Russian ambassador to Sofia.
