A British lawmaker in Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s ruling Conservative Party has been found guilty of sexually abusing a 15-year-old boy after he tried to force him to drink alcohol before abusing him.
Imran Ahmad Khan, 48, a Member of Parliament for Wakefield in the north of England, had denied the allegations but was convicted of abusing a minor in a home in 2008.
The victim had then decided not to file a complaint, but when Ahmad Khan was elected MP in 2019, the child went to court.
“In his subsequent statements to the police, he told investigators more about what had happened and I am glad that the court accepted the unshakable evidence given by the victim of the crime committed by Kahn,” said Rosemary Ainsley from the British Public Prosecutor’s Office.
Ahmad Khan had been expelled from his party pending the outcome of the trial.
His conviction could spark elections for his parliamentary seat, which he seized from the opposition Labor Party in 2019, as anyone sentenced to more than 12 months in prison is automatically expelled from parliament.
Labor stressed that it must resign immediately.
