Speaker of the Duma: To remove the citizenship from “traitors” – Obsyanikova in the spotlight

by

Duma Speaker Vitsislav Volodin today proposed removing Russian citizenship from “traitors” opposed to the invasion of Ukraine, citing Russian journalist Marina Ovsyannikova, who cut off a Russian television news bulletin on the Russian .

“The vast majority of our fellow citizens support the special military operation in Ukraine, they understand its necessity for the security of our country and our nation. “But there are also those who behave cowardly, treacherously,” Volodin said.

“Alas, for such” citizens of the Russian Federation “there is no process of deprivation of citizenship and ban on entry into our country. “But maybe that would be good,” he told the Telegram.

“What do you think?” He then asked his followers on this social media.

To illustrate his point, the speaker of the Duma referred to the case of Obsyanikova, who became famous in mid-March, holding a live placard that read “No to war.”

The Russian journalist, who had quit her job on the Russian state television network Pervy Kanal, has become a correspondent in Ukraine and Russia for the large German newspaper Die Welt, the German news group reported.

“Now it will work for a NATO country, justify arms deliveries to Ukrainian neo-Nazis, send foreign mercenaries to fight our troops and defend sanctions against Russia,” Volodin said.

A drastic measure such as the removal of citizenship is unlikely to take place without the approval of President Vladimir Putin.

However, Volodin’s statements show the growing hostility in Russia against any voice raised against Moscow’s military offensive against Ukraine since February 24.

The Kremlin has intensified its crackdown in recent weeks, arresting thousands of protesters, blocking independent media and social media.
