Duma Speaker Vitsislav Volodin today proposed removing Russian citizenship from “traitors” opposed to the invasion of Ukraine, citing Russian journalist Marina Ovsyannikova, who cut off a Russian television news bulletin on the Russian .

“Now it will work for a NATO country, justify arms deliveries to Ukrainian neo-Nazis, send foreign mercenaries to fight our troops and defend sanctions against Russia,” Volodin said.
A drastic measure such as the removal of citizenship is unlikely to take place without the approval of President Vladimir Putin.
However, Volodin’s statements show the growing hostility in Russia against any voice raised against Moscow’s military offensive against Ukraine since February 24.
The Kremlin has intensified its crackdown in recent weeks, arresting thousands of protesters, blocking independent media and social media.
