The Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky stressed in his evening sermon that his country does not have the necessary weapons to liberate the besieged Mariupolwhich is considered to be falling into the hands of Russian troops.
“If we had fighter jets and enough heavy armor, the necessary artillery, we would be able to do it,” he said.
“I’m sure we will get almost everything we need. But time is not wasted. The lives of Ukrainians are being lost. “Lives that will not go back,” he added.
The leader of the pro-Russian separatists in Danetsk, Dennis Pushilin, said earlier yesterday that sector of the port of Mariupol, in southeastern Ukraine, where fierce fighting has been raging for weeks, has fallen into the hands of the Russian side.
The separatists have been trying for weeks to seize Mariupol, a city of strategic importance due to its location on the Sea of Azov, from the hands of Ukrainian forces.
